Fiorello La Guardia, Al Smith, and Theodore Granik stand together at the WOR microphones in this 1933 print, with Granik, a radio figure, also giving his name to the collection it comes from. The picture captures the period when radio was becoming a main way for city and state leaders to reach voters directly. The caption calls Smith governor, but he had held that office earlier in the 1920s, and Herbert Lehman was governor in 1933, so the caption is worth checking against other sources. La Guardia, then a congressman, was elected mayor of New York later that year.
