A player named in the caption as Matsuda, of Waseda, is safe at second base in this May 1911 game in Chicago. Waseda, a Tokyo university, toured American campuses that year, which made its baseball team a novelty on a Midwestern diamond. The image is a glass negative from the George Grantham Bain Collection, made by the Bain News Service, a New York agency that sold news pictures to newspapers nationwide. Because the title comes from the agency's own unverified notes, the names are best checked against contemporary sources.
