This view shows the Mines Building at the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition, held in Seattle in 1909 on the University of Washington grounds. The exposition marked the growth of the Pacific Northwest and drew attention to Alaska's mineral wealth after the gold rush, and the Mines Building was meant to showcase that wealth. The cascades in the title point to the fair's landscaped water features, which were a central part of its designed grounds. The photographer, F.H. Nowell, worked for the exposition. The caption card gives no date, so the 1909 association comes from a subject tracing rather than a verified record.
