Few pictures on this board show the aftermath of the Halifax Explosion as plainly as this glass negative, whose title points to an exposition building reduced to rubble. The blast followed a collision in Halifax Harbour on December 6, 1917, between a French munitions ship and a Norwegian vessel, and it flattened much of the city's north end. The Bain News Service, a New York photo agency, circulated many images of the devastation. The title comes from the agency's own unverified notes, so the building's identity is worth checking against other records before you rely on it.
