The Fisheries Building was one of the main exhibit halls at the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition, which opened in Seattle in 1909 on the grounds of the University of Washington. The fair marked the region's growing trade with Alaska and the Pacific, and fishing was central to that trade, with salmon canneries and Alaskan fisheries drawing much of the attention. The caption card credits the photograph to F.H. Nowell, whose view records the exposition's architecture and its ambition to showcase the Northwest's natural resources. The card does not record a date, but its subject headings point to the 1909 fair.
