A parrot perched in the foreground sets this lithograph apart from the usual steamship advertisement, pairing a Booth Line vessel with the bird life of the Amazon River. The poster was printed in Liverpool by the Liverpool Printing & Stationery Co., sometime between 1930 and 1940, to promote sailings to Portugal, Madeira and northern Brazil. The Booth Steamship Company, based in Liverpool, ran passenger and cargo services up the Amazon to ports such as Manaus and Belém, and posters like this one helped market that route to travelers and shippers. The artist credited is Walter Thomas, whose bold, flat color treatment reflects the commercial poster style common in Britain during those years.
