The Bureau of Engraving and Printing produced the paper currency, bonds, and stamps of the United States, and its work made it one of the most closely watched federal workplaces in the capital. The National Photo Company, which photographed Washington's government buildings and streets in the early twentieth century, made this glass negative sometime between 1910 and 1925. The title comes from the company's own notes and has not been independently verified. The negative shows streaks and blemishes from the gradual breakdown of its original coating, which give the image a faint, textured quality.
