This print documents the History of Habitation exhibit, a display at the Exposition Universelle of 1889 in Paris that traced how people had built and lived in their homes, from early shelters to contemporary dwellings. The fair was held to mark the centennial of the French Revolution and drew millions of visitors to the Champ de Mars, where the new Eiffel Tower served as its entrance.
