Among the reconstructed dwellings at the 1889 Exposition Universelle in Paris was a house representing Persia, shown in the fair's History of Habitation exhibit. The exhibit grouped homes from many regions and cultures to show how people had built and lived across time and place, a approach typical of the era's fascination with ethnography and world cultures. Fairs like this one, which also featured the newly built Eiffel Tower, presented such displays to large crowds as lessons in global diversity and progress. This albumen print captures the building as visitors would have encountered it, offering a glimpse of how Europe framed non-Western architecture for public audiences.
