The Associated Press print is titled "Still dangerous," a phrase that suggests a wounded serviceman who was not yet out of harm's way. Its caption card ties the picture to U.S. Marines and the Korean War in August 1950, only about two months after North Korea's invasion began. Marine units had recently reached Korea and were fighting in the Pusan Perimeter, the defensive pocket around the port city. The record is based on unverified caption information, so the exact location and the men pictured remain unconfirmed, but the image offers a direct glimpse of the toll of those early battles.
