Few pictures in this group tie so directly to a single novel as this woodcut, which takes its subject from Myra Henshaw's will in Willa Cather's *My Mortal Enemy*. Knopf published Cather's novella in 1926, and the print was made for that edition by William Addison Dwiggins, a typographer and book designer who did much of his illustration work for the firm. His bold black-and-white cutting suits Cather's spare story of a troubled marriage, and it shows how publishers of the 1920s paired fiction with graphic art.
