The caption "Call me a muttonhead will ya?" gives this sheet its voice, and the signature "BB No. 24" in the seventh frame suggests it was one panel in a longer sequence. Comic art like this, drawn in India ink over pencil and lightly washed in blue on bristol board, was working material for American newspaper and magazine cartoonists in the 1920s, made to be reproduced rather than hung. The word "Photochrome" written on the back points to a color reproduction process, a reminder of how such originals were meant to circulate. The sheet came to the Library of Congress as a bequest and gift from Caroline and Erwin Swann in 1974.
