Riefenstahl appears here as Martha, a flamenco dancer, in a still from *Tiefland*, a film loosely based on Eugen d'Albert's 1903 opera of the same name. She began the project in the early 1940s, and it was shot in fits and starts over several years before its release in 1954. The production used Romani people held at the Maxglan camp near Salzburg as extras, many of whom were later deported to Auschwitz, a history that now shapes how the film is viewed. The dance scenes were meant to give the story its Spanish setting, and the still captures that stylized, theatrical look.
