From the Suspension Bridge, this view looks out over the Ohio River at Cincinnati, with side-wheel steamboats working the water below. The bridge linking Cincinnati to Covington, Kentucky, was designed by John A. Roebling and completed in 1866, and it served as a trial run for his later Brooklyn Bridge. The Detroit Publishing Company, which produced photographs of American towns and scenery in the early twentieth century, made this 8 by 10 inch glass negative around 1906. The paddle-wheel boats were still a common sight on the river at that time.
