This tall lithograph advertises Harry Kellar, one of the most celebrated American stage magicians of the late 1800s, and its subject headings point to the "demons" and "toasting" acts that were part of his program. The Strobridge Litho Company, a firm known for large theatrical posters, printed it in color around 1899, with the record listing both Cincinnati and New York as places of production. Posters like this one were meant to be seen from a distance on city streets, so their bold figures and dramatic scenes were designed to draw audiences to the show. Kellar later passed his mantle as the leading American magician to Harry Houdini, who had been a member of his circle.
