Howard Thurston appears here under a title that names him as the heir to Harry Kellar, the leading American stage magician of the era, whose touring illusion show Thurston took over around 1908. The color lithograph was produced by the Strobridge Litho. Co., a Cincinnati firm known for theatrical posters, and its subject list includes demons, a reminder that stage magic of the period often drew on dramatic themes of the supernatural. The poster shows how touring magicians used bold, eye-catching graphics to promote big illusion shows in the early twentieth century.
