Few pictures on this board show a building as a working drawing, and this one records two theaters that shared a corner in Chicago's Loop: the Garrick, also known as the Schiller, and Wood's theater, at East Randolph and North Dearborn streets. Drawn in ink on paper in 1932, it is an architectural survey rather than a view of the crowds or productions inside. The Loop's theater district was then shifting toward motion pictures, and drawings like this one document how older playhouses were laid out at a time when their uses were changing. The subject tags for the record place both buildings in Chicago during the 1930s, which helps set the drawing in the period of that transition.
