The drawing records Al H. Wood's Apollo theater at the corner of Randolph and Dearborn Streets in Chicago's Loop, a downtown block that in the 1920s held many of the city's theaters. Wood was a New York theatrical producer and manager, and his name on the project reflects the commercial appetite of the period, when stage shows and the newly popular movie houses were drawing large crowds. Dated 1924 and rendered in ink on paper, this is a working document of the sort an architect or builder used to plan a building, so its line work and lettering reveal as much about how the house was meant to be laid out as about its appearance.
