This pair of halftone plates shows two installations at Alfred Stieglitz's 291 gallery in New York, one of Constantin Brancusi's sculpture exhibition from March 1914 and one of an exhibition of African art from November 1914. Stieglitz photographed the rooms himself, and the plates appeared in *Camera Work*, his journal of photography and modern art, in its October 1916 issue. The prints document how Stieglitz displayed sculpture as serious art alongside modernist painting, a practice that helped introduce both Brancusi and African objects to American audiences.
