Six bookplates, each a small ownership label once pasted inside a volume, are gathered on this print, which spans the years 1815 to 1864. British troops burned the Library of Congress in August 1814, and the rebuilding began the next year, when Thomas Jefferson sold his personal collection of about 6,500 volumes to Congress. The print was made sometime between 1900 and 1950, so it preserves a record of how the Library marked its books in the decades after that rebuilding.
