A color lithograph poster from 1920, titled in German as an appeal to give to a Bavarian border donation, makes its case for money in the year after Germany signed the Treaty of Versailles. The poster's subject headings point to postwar hardship: economic strain, fundraising campaigns, and an unusual reference to card games, which may hint at how the appeal was pitched to ordinary people. Designed by W. Krain, it shows how public posters in the early Weimar years tried to rally support for regions and causes that the defeat and its settlement had left under pressure.
