A poster urging Germans to return to Upper Silesia for the vote stands out for its focus on travel: its subjects include railroads, charity, and the election itself. The 1921 plebiscite, held on March 20 under the Treaty of Versailles, asked residents whether they wished to remain in Germany or join Poland, and many who had moved away were expected to come back to cast ballots. The text appeals for donations to a Bavarian border fund, which shows how widely Germans felt the outcome mattered. The region was ultimately divided, with its industrial east going to Poland in 1922.
