The German slogan "Gib für unsere Helden" ("Give for our heroes") makes this 1915 color lithograph a direct appeal to civilians to donate to the war effort. Germany's charitable organizations issued many posters like it during the First World War, raising money and goods for soldiers and their families as the conflict dragged on and strained the home front. The record also tags the poster with economic and industrial aspects of the war and with a gates theme, which points to how fundraising was woven into public life. The design is signed "Royer," and its bold lettering and large format were meant to be read from a distance on city streets.
