A 1917 lithograph ties the call to arms to the coastline, placing the words "We need you!" beside a Coast Artillery cannon and a sunrise or sunset over the water. The Coast Artillery Corps guarded the nation's harbors and coastal forts, and its work grew more pressing once the United States entered the First World War that April. Tolson Rode printed it in New York, and the record lists it as poster no. 3 in a Wentworth Institute series, with the United States Shipping Board's Emergency Fleet Corporation named as sponsor. Its pairing of heavy ordnance and open sky made a military career look both powerful and steady.
