A fundraising appeal from the First World War, this lithograph promises that a single American ambulance unit was "now saving lives in Russia" and directs donations to The American Ambulance in Russia at 527 Fifth Avenue in New York City. Russia fought on the Eastern Front against Germany and Austria-Hungary, and its armies suffered heavy casualties with limited medical resources. Private groups in the United States raised money to supply ambulances and medical staff, and posters like this one were used to reach donors. The date is given only as a bracketed estimate, so the poster probably belongs to the years of Russia's upheaval in 1917.
