Gouverneur K. Warren's brigade, including the 5th and 10th New York regiments, is the focus here, shown as it was overpowered by James Longstreet's advance near Groveton, Virginia, on August 30, 1862. Pencil and Chinese white on green paper give the scene a quick, close-range feel, appropriate to a sketch made in the middle of the action. The second day of the Second Battle of Bull Run ended with heavy losses on both sides, and the casualties listed in the record reflect how costly that late-afternoon collapse was for the Union soldiers involved.
