Few posters on this board announce a district by number, and this one, titled "Athletics" and marked "Dist. No. 2 / Hazlett," ties its message to a specific local WPA recreation program in Illinois. The Works Progress Administration, later renamed the Work Projects Administration, ran community recreation programs during the Depression, and its Federal Art Project turned out inexpensive silkscreen posters to publicize them. The poster's 1936 date and the 1939 stamp on the back show how long such materials circulated through the program's offices.
