Titled for a WPA recreation project in District No. 2, this 1939 silkscreen promotes athletics as part of a public recreation program rather than a single event. It was produced under the Federal Art Project, which employed artists during the Depression to design posters advertising government services and community activities. Recreation programs like this one gave unemployed workers jobs organizing sports and playgrounds, and the posters brought bold color to public notices.
