Few posters from 1919 pair a rooster with a call to rebuild quite like this one, whose French title announces a day devoted to the Liberated Regions, the northern and eastern parts of France that German forces had occupied for much of the war. The rooster, a long-standing emblem of France, appears alongside French military figures, linking wartime sacrifice to the peacetime work of reconstruction. Signed by Auguste Leroux, the lithograph carries the slogan "After victory, to work! Help us," an appeal for public support aimed at towns left damaged by four years of fighting.
