The National Photo Company's record for this glass negative gives little beyond its title, "Hoover & group," so the people beside Herbert Hoover remain unidentified. The bracketed date of 1929 places the picture in the first year of Hoover's presidency, which began in March of that year. Glass plates like this one were a common medium for studio and press work of the period, before flexible film became standard. The record also notes streaks and blemishes from the natural deterioration of the original coating, which are part of the negative's physical history.
