This glass negative is catalogued under the name Arem Thompson, but that title comes from unverified notes the National Photo Company wrote on the negative or its sleeve, so the identity of the sitter remains unconfirmed. The plate dates to about 1922, when the National Photo Company was making a large body of work in Washington, D.C. Glass negatives of this period were hand-coated with light-sensitive emulsion, and over the decades that coating can develop streaks and other blemishes, which are visible here. Herbert A. French gave the plate to the Library of Congress in 1947.
