Former president Grover Cleveland stands on a driveway in Princeton, New Jersey, with a son and a dog, the family house rising behind them. Cleveland settled in Princeton after leaving the White House in 1897 and spent his retirement at his home, Westland. This picture was issued as a stereograph by Underwood & Underwood, a firm that sold paired images for viewing through a stereoscope in parlors across the country. The identifications come from the original caption card and have not been independently verified, but the scene offers a rare domestic glimpse of a president out of office.
