In this bust portrait turned toward the right, Grover Cleveland appears around 1892, the year he won the Democratic nomination and the presidency again, returning to the White House in 1893. The print is credited to N. Sarony, the New York studio known for many celebrated nineteenth-century sitters, and its caption card lists it among presidential portraits. Cleveland is the only president to serve two nonconsecutive terms, so an image like this records a politician who had already left office once and was about to return. Its place on a Cleveland city board rests on a shared name, since the city was named for Moses Cleveland, not the president.
