Designed by the muralist Edwin Howland Blashfield, this tall color lithograph urges Americans to "Carry on!" by buying Liberty Bonds to their utmost. It was printed in New York around 1918, when the federal government was running Liberty Loan campaigns to pay for American entry into World War I. Blashfield was known for large allegorical murals, and the poster's monumental scale and bold composition suggest that background, making a patriotic appeal feel weighty when posted on a city wall.
