Addressed directly to the city of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, this 1918 color lithograph by C.W. Drepperd asks residents to back the sons who were fighting overseas by buying Liberty bonds. The Liberty Loan campaigns were the federal government's way of financing the war effort, and posters like this one carried that appeal into local communities, where civic pride and family ties encouraged people to buy. The poster's pairing of a town's name with its own soldiers shows how war finance was framed as a personal, neighborly duty as well as a national one.
