Howard Thurston, one of the best-known American stage magicians of his day, is the star of this color lithograph, and the poster's promise of a master magician "all out of a hat" points to the production effects that made his shows famous. Lithographs like this were the standard way touring theatrical companies advertised around 1910, when large illusion shows drew big crowds to vaudeville and playhouse stages. The chorus girls in the design reflect the lavish, revue-style staging of the period, which packaged magic as spectacle as much as trickery.
