A glass negative dated July 16, 1921, records a portrait of Senator Watson of Georgia, whom the National Photo Company identified by name on the negative sleeve. Thomas E. Watson, a former Populist leader, had just taken his seat in the U.S. Senate that year, and the company's Washington studio made many such portraits of officials and public figures during this period. The title comes from the company's own data and has not been independently verified. Streaks and blemishes across the glass reflect the natural breakdown of the original coating, which is part of what the negative shows about its age.
