Printed in Boston around 1884, this color lithograph is a campaign poster for the Democratic ticket of Grover Cleveland for president and Thomas A. Hendricks of Indiana for vice president. Cleveland, then governor of New York, won that year's election over Republican James G. Blaine and became the first Democrat elected president since James Buchanan. Hendricks, a former governor of Indiana, was a longtime party leader and had earlier been a senator. Posters like this one were printed in large numbers to put candidates' names and portraits in front of voters who had few other ways to see them.
