This campaign poster presents the 1888 Democratic ticket of Grover Cleveland of New York and Allen G. Thurman of Ohio, a former U.S. senator who was then in his seventies. The lithograph was produced by the New York firm H.A. Thomas & Wylie and printed by Hojer & Graham, and its copyright was entered on August 4, 1888, after the party had named its nominees. That year Cleveland sought a second term, campaigning largely on lowering tariffs against Republican Benjamin Harrison. Cleveland won the popular vote but lost the electoral college, and Harrison became president.
