Atwater Kent's Philadelphia factory was the workplace of a company that built automobile ignition systems before turning to radio sets, which made it one of the best-known manufacturers in the city during the 1920s. This glass negative comes from the National Photo Company, a commercial firm that documented Philadelphia and other cities in the early twentieth century, so the picture reflects the working city of its era. The record dates it only to a span between 1909 and 1940, and the location is an unverified title, so the exact year and vantage point remain uncertain. Visible streaks and blemishes come from the deterioration of the original coating.
