Car No. 73 of the Hartford Street Railway, bound for the Parkville section along Farmington Avenue, dates to a short window between the end of 1891 and the summer of 1892. Horse-drawn cars like this one carried passengers along city streets on rails set into the pavement, showing how completely urban travel depended on animal power at the time. Within a few years, electric trolleys began replacing many such lines across American cities, so the scene captures street transportation just before a major change.
