The caption "Getzin" identifies the player on this 1888 card, one of the sporting cards that the Allen & Ginter Company of Richmond, Virginia, packed with its cigarettes to encourage repeat purchases. The World's Champions set, catalogued as N29, honored champions across many sports and games, not baseball alone. Its chromolithographs were built from several inked stones, one for each color, which gave the cards their bright finish. This example survives in the Library of Congress as part of the Benjamin K. Edwards Collection of baseball cards.
