Three Airedale terriers and the man who kept their kennel at the White House make this picture distinct, pointing to the dogs' place in the Harding household. Warren G. Harding was fond of Airedales, and his favorite, Laddie Boy, became something of a public figure during his presidency. The photograph was made by the National Photo Company, a Washington studio that documented the city's streets, officials and events in the 1920s. It dates to about 1924, roughly a year after Harding died in office in August 1923, so it shows the White House kennel continuing after its best-known resident was gone.
