Iowa's farm products, arranged for display at the 1876 Centennial Exhibition in Philadelphia, are the subject of this wood engraving. *Harper's Weekly* published it on November 11, 1876, on page 921, working from sketches by illustrator Theodore R. Davis, who drew many scenes from the fair for the magazine. Engravings like this let readers far from Philadelphia see the exhibits, including the agricultural displays that showed how far the Midwest's farming had grown. Agriculture was a major theme of the exposition, which marked the 100th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.
