A man reads the Declaration of Independence in Philadelphia during the Centennial Fourth of 1876, the hundredth anniversary of the document's adoption. The title names Richard Henry Lee, the Virginia delegate who offered the resolution for independence in Congress in June 1776. J.B. Frost drew the wood engraving, which *Harper's Weekly* printed on July 27, 1876, as the magazine turned the Centennial festivities into images for a national readership. The record's caption suggests the figure may be a descendant of the Revolutionary statesman, though that detail is unverified.
