The record gives this glass negative only a name, Henri Braugard, and that title comes from unverified data the National Photo Company wrote on the negatives or their sleeves, so the sitter's identity remains provisional. The negative dates from roughly 1918 to 1920, when the Washington, D.C., firm was producing large numbers of glass plates of the city's people, streets and events. Herbert A. French gave it to the Library of Congress in 1947. Streaks and blemishes on the glass come from natural deterioration of the original coatings, which is common in negatives of this age.
