The only identifying word for this negative is its title, "Whiskey," which the National Photo Company wrote on the negative or its sleeve. The Library of Congress notes that the label has not been verified. The image survives as a glass negative no larger than 4 by 5 inches, dated between 1918 and 1920, a period when the Washington, D.C., firm's work often recorded local and national scenes. Herbert A. French gave the negative to the library in 1947, and its surface shows streaks and blemishes from the natural deterioration of the original coatings, which affect how its tones and detail appear.
