This view pairs the Hotel Kernan with the Maryland theater, two landmarks that shared a busy Baltimore streetscape around 1906. Hotels and theaters clustered in the city's commercial core, where visitors arrived by train and streetcar and where evening crowds gathered for shows. The picture comes from the Detroit Publishing Company, a firm known for large-format views of American towns and cities made for sale and promotion in the early twentieth century.
