Soroa is a small mountain village in the Sierra del Rosario, in Pinar del Río province, and this view of it is a cityscape rather than a close study of a single building. Known for its cool hill air, lush vegetation, and orchid gardens, Soroa drew Cuban visitors and tourists in the mid-20th century as a retreat from the heat of the lowlands. The record dates the print to about 1964, though the question mark signals that the date is an estimate. The photograph belongs to a larger group of 1960s views of Cuban places held by the Library of Congress.
