The town of Guáimaro, in Camagüey province, is best known for the 1869 assembly that drafted the constitution of Cuba's first independence war. This card, captioned in Spanish, marks a later episode: the taking of the town by insurgent forces between October 17 and 28, 1896, during the final phase of the Cuban War of Independence. Printed around 1910, after Spain ceded Cuba to the United States in 1898, it belongs to a folder titled *Recuerdos de la Manigua*, or "Memories of the Bush," a sentiment that veterans and the wider public shared about the rebel campaigns.
